TIPS FOR SPRING CLEANING YOUR HOME
TIPS FOR SPRING CLEANING YOUR HOME

The key to the daunting task of spring cleaning your home, or preparing your home for sale, is to be organised, with your supplies and equipment ready to go and a plan and spring cleaning checklist in place.

Follow these simple tips to streamline the process and you will have your home sparkling clean before you know it.

Prepare your cleaning equipment and supplies

Before you begin, collect all of your cleaning supplies together so that when it comes time to start cleaning you have everything you need.

Your items might include:

•    Duster
•    Cloths
•    Scrubbing brush
•    Vacuum cleaner
•    Sponge
•    Vinegar
•    Bucket
•    Dish soap
•    Gloves

Make a cleaning plan

If you’re time-poor, create a cleaning schedule and focus on one area at a time. You might focus on one task, such as dusting, or on one room at a time like a bathroom, and work through the other areas as you complete each one. A good rule of thumb is to work from the top down, and clean high areas first so you’re not re-cleaning when dirt and dust fall.

Make a spring-cleaning checklist

It helps to have a checklist so you can systematically move through each room of your house one at a time.

Create a general checklist and apply it to each room in your home.

For example:

  • Dust ceilings and ceiling fans, lights, and lighting fixtures, blinds, curtain rods, and windowsills
  • Wipe down walls, windowsills, and skirting boards
  • Cleans windows, vacuum window, and door tracks, and wash fly screens
  • Vacuum and wash floors, and shampoo carpets and rugs if required. Make sure you move your furniture so you can clean underneath it thoroughly

Clean your appliances

On top of your general spring cleaning don’t forget a deep clean of your appliances.

Kitchen

  • Oven and oven racks
  • Refrigerator, inside and out including drawers, shelves, and freezer
  • Dishwasher filters, racks and wipe down internal walls
  • Clean stove and splashback
  • Wipe down rangehood and clean filters

Laundry

  • Clean the washing machine and dryer and wipe down buttons and knobs
  • Scrub washing machine parts such as detergent drawer, lint trap, etc.
  • Vacuum/clean exhaust fans and covers which collect a lot of dust over time
